Herpetological Monographs, Number 23, 2009
In this article, recently featured on the cover of Herpetological Monographs, Rafe Brown and colleagues revised the Philippine populations of Litter Toads (Genus Leptobrachium) which have long been confused with Hasselt's Litter Toad, Leptobrachium hasseltii (from Java, Indonesia). Brown and colleagues determined that the Philippine populations represented three new species, which they formally named and described in this monograph.
Chelonian Conservation and Biology, Volume 7, Number 2
In their recent review of all non-marine turtles of the Philippines, Rafe Brown and colleagues evaluated the taxonomy, conservation status, and geographic ranges of all endemic and introduced species. The featured species is one of the rarest batagurid turtles in the world, the recently rediscovered Philippine Forest Turtle, Siebenrockiella leytensis.

William Duellman, who worked on Marsupial Frogs (Genus Gastrotheca) for many years, collaborated with John Wiens and other colleagues on a phylogenetic analysis of these frogs and showed that contrary to the usual evolutionary trends in amphibians the biphasic life-history mode in Gastrotheca has re-evolved from the direct-development mode of life history. This supports Duellman’s earlier (1984) hypothesis that free-living tadpoles in this genus result from arrested development.

The Cusco Amazónico Cover. William Duellman and associates from the University of Kansas and the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru, spent many months between 1986 and 1991 surveying the amphibians and reptiles in a seasonally dry rainforest in southeastern Peru. This book reveals the diversity with respect to temporal and seasonal activity, microhabitat, food, and reproductive activity among the amphibians and reptiles inhabiting this type of forest at one restricted site.
