Museum Volunteer Program

The KU Natural History Museum has openings for volunteer positions!  Our volunteers are an integral part of the museum and work at least two 2-hour shifts per month.

Available positions

Museum Ambassador

Our front desk greeters are the first and most important person our patrons see when they walk through our doors. Duties include: welcoming families, school groups and individuals; handing out maps; receiving and processing contributions; and answering phone inquiries. Requirements: basic computer literacy and customer service skills. 

Gift Shop Cashier

Calling all science lovers! We need help operating the Fossilogics Gift Shop. Duties include: assisting customers, operating the cash register, answering phones and keeping the Museum Gift Shop looking great. Requirements: basic computer literacy and customer service skills. 

Coming Soon: Docent

Do you love science and natural history? Do you have experience with teaching? We would love to have you on board as part of our upcoming Volunteer Docent program. Join now as a Museum Ambassador and you'll be trained as a docent as soon as our program is up and running.
